This means that the many different proprietary network services that are often used to carry these services, each with their own installation charges and annual rentals, may now be considered for consolidation upon a common shared fibre infrastructure. There are no service compromises to this approach. Each service retains its own unique characteristics. Security may even be enhanced beyond current levels though the use of optical encryption techniques. Physical security may be enhanced by routing fibres through non-sensitive geographic areas, by securing access chambers in the ground and by housing equipment in physically secure, alarmed cabinets.
